Falling for Boots

I’m a little too excited about my new fall boots.  I always wear heels and, after walking around in these, I’m a new convert to flats!   I wanted some boots that I could kick around in, and basically live in all fall/winter.  Nothing fancy, just practical and CHiC… Something I could wear to my nephews’ football games, to my uncle’s ranch for Thanksgiving (sitting around a bonfire and out to the henhouse to gather eggs!) and everywhere else in Houston this season.

I planned on spending less than $200, so coveted Frye boots were a little out of my budget.  Until I happened upon a blessed two-day sale at Nordstrom that lowered the Frye Melissa Trapunto boots onto my radar screen!  Thank goodness for little blessings (:

The moment I put them on, I fell in love.  Just for comparison, I tried on the Frye Melissa Button boot (that everyone seems to rave about).  Thankfully, I much preferred the ones I bought – as they were MUCH less expensive on sale.  I don’t know if it was the caramel color or the band around the top, but I had to add this fall staple to my wardrobe.

One reason I bought them was because I love the skinny-jean-in-great-boots trend for fall.  Here are some examples…

However, I soon remembered that skinny jeans and my body generally don’t match!  I’m a boot-cut kind of gal, so I had to figure out how to wear my new boots!  For those of you in the same boat, rest assured that skinny jeans are not created equal.  There are some that work well, so you’ve got to try on a few.

You also can look for leggings and faux leather pants (love them!) that pair well tucked into fall boots.

This fall, I picked up both of these that look great with my new boots.  The first pair are faux leather ankle pants from Ann Taylor and the second are Ralph Lauren jodhpur leggings with faux suede patches on the inner knees.  These I found on clearance for 70 percent off at Macys!

Coated denim also looks great tucked into jeans (and looks like leather at a much lower price).  I just bought some black ones at Em and Lee for $40 that look similar to this version from Paige and J Brand Jeans.

I also love sweater dresses with boots.  Here are some options that would look great with casual fall boots.  The first is an Eliza J color block sweater dress from Nordstrom and the second is a striped version from Banana Republic.

Success!  Now I’ve got several options to showcase my new boots.  The sales guy at Nordstrom even suggested I wear them with tweed or leather shorts and opaque black tights.  I haven’t gotten that brave yet, but who knows!  All these fall clothes make me want to build a fire and go play in some leaves (if you live anywhere except Houston, that is)!  Any other ideas for outfits to pair with fall boots?  Share your ideas in the comment box (and share the CHiC Scribe with your friends!) and Happy Fall!
